Dawood Basha Lebanese meatballs in tomato stew recipe

Mouth-watering meatballs stewed in all-things-tomato, this rich Lebanese Dawood Basha recipe with carrots and peas is a must try!

 

Meatballs:

500g minced beef

1/3 cup finely chopped parsley

2 cloves of garlic

1 shredded onion

2 tbsp breadcrumbs

Salt and pepper


Tomato sauce:

3 tomatoes

2 large carrots

1 can of peas

1 can of tomato pulp

1/2 tbsp tomato puree

1 cube of beef stock

1/2 tsp fresh garlic

Salt and pepper (or 7 spices)


  1. Mix the meatball ingredients together and create medium-sized meatballs

  2. Fry in vegetable oil using medium heat then set aside

  3. In a pot heat some oil to fry the garlic and carrots then add the fresh tomatoes

  4. Cook with the lid covered on medium heat for 2-5 minutes then add the tomato pulp and puree

  5. Cook for another 10-15 minutes (or until the tomato acidity is reduced) then add the salt, pepper, beef stock and peas

  6. Finally add the meatballs into the tomato mix, cook for a couple of minutes and serve with a delicious side of vermicelli rice!
